An Aghadowey man who kicked parked cars whilst drunk after being out in Coleraine has been given a four months jail term, suspended for two years, and also ordered to pay compensation of £750.
Sean Hunter (33), of Clarehill Park, was being restrained by members of the public in the Ballycastle Road area when police arrived at the scene of the incident on November 25 last year.
A prosecutor told the Monday June 4 sitting of Coleraine Magistrates Court that Hunter was shouting and swearing and wouldn’t calm down for police and after being arrested the defendant kicked an officer.
Hunter was in court for sentencing on charges of causing criminal damage to a Volkswagen Beetle and a Honda CRV, disorderly behaviour and assault on police.
The defendant initially told police he had been at a social club and drank whiskey and ‘shots’ and because he was drunk he couldn’t recall what happened.
Defence solicitor Sam Barr said there had been “some sort of disturbance” in the club and the defendant had left.
