An Ahoghill man who tried to run off from police near McDonald’s in Ballymena has been jailed for two months.

Albert Donnelly of Killane Park, appeared via video link from prison at Ballymena Magistrates Court on Thursday which was the eve of his 43rd birthday.

He pleaded guilty to charges of having counterfeit Ulster Bank £20 notes; using a vehicle without insurance and resisting police in connection with an early morning incident on May 28 this year.

Defence barrister Neil Moore said Donnelly had received the counterfeit notes in a transaction.

A previous court heard Donnelly had almost 150 convictions and at the time of the May 28 offences Donnelly’s bail conditions excluded him from being in the front seats of any vehicle.
