Allegation of receiving stolen goods – two litres of milk – could lead to a jury trial

Ballymena Court

A man accused of receiving stolen goods – a two litre bottle of milk taken from Poundland in Ballymena – has elected to have the case sent to the Crown Court.

Pavel Wankowicz (37), of Skerry Court, Suffolk Street, Ballymena, is alleged to have committed the offence in the Pentagon area of the town on February 3 this year.

He had not appeared at an earlier court when it was heard he was believed to have been in Poland.

At the court in July a judge issued a warning that if the defendant did not turn up at court on August 16 an arrest warrant would be issued.

The defendant was in court on August 16 and elected for the matter to be sent to the Crown Court.

The case has been adjourned until September to fix a date for a Preliminary Enquiry – the legal step to send a case to the higher court – which, it is understood, could lead to a trial before a jury.
