A man charged with permitting a person to drive a vehicle without insurance at Thomas Street in Ballymena failed to appear, on Thursday, at the town’s Magistrates Court where a defence solicitor said: “As far as I’m aware he may have returned to his homeland” which is Romania.

Daniel Racoti (22), whose address was given as Galgorm Road in Ballymena, is alleged to have committed the insurance offence on June 20 this year.

The defence solicitor told the court an arrest warrant had been issued at the same court the previous week in connection with another matter in which his client was accused of having cannabis and stealing clothing and groceries worth £24 from Asda in the run up to last Christmas.
