A man who failed to answer the door to police claimed he had fallen asleep with headphones on.

Trevor Hutchinson (35), of Boiling Well Lane, Coleraine, breached his bail by failing to respond to police after his bail conditions included a night time curfew.

The defendant appeared at Coleraine Magistrates Court on February 11 and admitted breaching the bail.

When officers returned to the address the next day they detected a smell of alcohol which was another bail breach.

Defence solicitor Denise Gillan said the defendant had taken three or four tins of beer whilst watching football and had not been out.

The defendant has pleaded guilty to possessing cocaine on December 27 last year.

He is denying a charge of assault relating to the same date.

The defendant was released on bail and the case adjourned to February 25.
