A BMW driver who had been “tailgating” a motorist who was doing 70mph in the overtaking lane of the A26 Lisnevenagh Road dual-carriageway, later crashed, a court heard.

Philip Graham (30), of Oaklands, Cullybackey, admitted a charge of dangerous driving arising out of the incident on November 15 last year.

At the August 16 sitting of Ballymena Magistrates Court it was heard witnesses said Graham’s driving had been “erratic and dangerous”.

One witness said she was in the right hand lane travelling at 70mph and Graham’s vehicle sped up behind and was so close to her she pulled in.

At one stage Graham veered to the left and struck the rear of another vehicle.

Without hearing the full case, District Judge Nigel Broderick said he was stopping proceedings as what he had already been told meant he wanted a pre-sentence report prepared on Graham.

He banned the defendant from driving and adjourned the case to September.
