A chef has been accused of assaulting a woman.

Shimjithlal Meethalepokkoth (35), of Harbour View, Ballycastle, is alleged to have committed the offence on July 25 this year.

He appeared at Coleraine Magistrates Court on Monday August 20 where a prosecutor asked for the case to be adjourned to October.

Defence solicitor Derwin Harvey said the alleged injured party lives in Ballycastle.

The lawyer said the defendant had been working as a chef but lost his job “as a result of” the alleged incident.

Mr Harvey said his client had been bailed to a bed and breakfast in Ballymena but has now obtained an address in Portglenone.

The defendant was released on £300 bail and is not to enter Ballycastle or contact the alleged injured party.
