Cocaine operation accused has bail varied to go to Spain for sister’s Hen Party

A woman who is one of a number of people charged in connection with a police undercover operation targeting the distribution of cocaine in Coleraine has had her bail varied to allow her to go to Spain for her sister’s Hen Party.

Michelle Henderson (46), of Society Street in Coleraine, had originally appeared in court during the summer and was released on bail which included a night time curfew and reporting to police twice a week.

Coleraine Magistrates Court this week heard a ‘Hen Weekend’ is taking place in the Malaga area and Henderson wanted to be there with her sister.

Defence solicitor Ciaran Shiels said Henderson had presented no difficulties since being released on bail in June.

He claimed she was “very much at the lower rung of a police test purchase” operation and had no criminal record.

District Judge Peter King granted bail saying it was “astounding” no police officer connected with the case was present for the bail application.

Had case officers been present and opposed the bail variation he said he would have agreed with the police suggestion.

The bail variation was granted and the case adjourned to November.

A prosecutor said the full file in the case is due on October 15.
