Council awarded platinum status for commitment to environmental excellence

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council have been recognised as one of the highest achieving Councils for their commitment to environmental excellence.

They were recognised for their work at the recent Northern Ireland Environmental Management Benchmarking Awards.

The Awards were conducted by Business in the Community.

Mid and East Antrim Council retained their platinum status in the top quintile.

Of the 101 businesses who took part, only 33 achieved platinum status by scoring over 90%.

Vice Chair of the Operational Committee, Councillor Mark McKinty, said: “Here in Mid and East Antrim we have established a reputation as an award-winning borough in many areas.

“This recent recognition at the Environmental Management Benchmarking Awards proves that Mid and East Antrim Borough Council are leading the way in their commitment to the environment.

“Council continues striving towards a positive impact on the environment through provision of street cleansing, refuse collection, recycling collection, air monitoring, beach cleaning, biodiversity projects, environmental education, building control services, parks and grounds maintenance and public conveniences.”

The Council has recycled 52.69% of all waste collected from householders during 2017/18, this is an increase of 7.5% on the previous year.
