THE Chief Executive of Mid & East Antrim Borough Council, Anne Donaghy, has been appointed to an influential UK-wide local government group which will bring benefits to the area, a councillor says.

The monthly meeting of the council in Ballymena heard Ms Donaghy has joined the UK Board of SOLACE – Society of Local Authority Chief Executives.

Larne DUP councillor, Gregg McKeen said the move means the local council chief will be able to “bring back a lot of ideas” which other councils are involved in to help enhance local projects.

SOLACE is the representative body for Chief Executives and senior managers working in the public sector in the UK.

Their website says: “We are committed to promoting public sector excellence. We provide our members with opportunities for professional development and seek to influence debate around the future of public services to ensure that policy and legislation are informed by the experience and expertise of our members.

“Whilst the vast majority of our members work in local government, some occupy senior positions in health and social care organisations, police and fire authorities and central government departments.”
