A BULGARIAN man who has only been in the UK since August 2 was detected drink driving on September 22 this year, Ballymena Magistrates Court heard.
Gencho Angelov (35), of Gallagh Road near Toome, had the offence detected when police spotted a Ford Focus car swerving at Toome Road near Ballymena at 1.40am.
A prosecutor said the defendant did not speak English and a phone interpretive service was used at the road side.
The defendant had an alcohol/breath reading of 55 with the legal limit being 35. He was also uninsured.
A defence lawyer said the defendant works as a welder for a local company and had only been in the UK since August 2.
District Judge Nigel Broderick said he could give credit for the early guilty plea and the defendant’s clear record as he banned him from driving for a year and fined him £400.
