A young driver who crashed a car into a set of traffic lights in Ballymena and then left the scene at Linenhall Street during the Christmas holidays last year has been banned from getting behind the wheel for a year and fined £400.

Michael Graffin (19), of Cushendall Road, Ballymena, appeared at the town’s Magistrates Court on Thursday and pleaded guilty to offences including a driving whilst unfit related matter, possession of cannabis; and failing to stop, remain and report an accident.

The incident happened around 1am on December 27 last year.
