AN MLA says a filling station which was sealed off by police following an incident tonight, has been ‘robbed 28 times’ over the years.
Maurice Bradley was speaking after an incident at the Bushmills Road Filling Station, Coleraine.
It is understood it was robbed at knife-point and as a result has closed for the rest of this evening.
Mr Bradley who was going into the shop just after the robbery happened said: “I was informed that the shop was closing as it had been robbed at knife point and a sum of money had been stolen from the till.”
He added: “I believe this is the 28th robbery at this filling station over the years, and as far as I am aware, no-one has ever been brought to justice.
“This is a business in the town providing a necessary service, it is popular and a busy forecourt and shop.
“The staff are shaken, but thankfully no-one was hurt.
“There are precautions in place in the shop to limit the amount of cash available, but none-the-less this is a severe crime and a robbery.
“I will be asking the PSNI to pursue all avenues of enquiry in an effort to have those responsible brought justice,” said Mr Bradley.
