Ireland hockey star Ayeisha McFerran was the guest of honour at a special Mayor’s Reception in Mid and East Antrim.
The Larne native was hosted by the borough’s first citizen at an event in recognition of her outstanding performances at the World Cup.
The Ireland team finished runners-up to the Netherlands following an incredible showing at the tournament, with Ayeisha named the number one goalkeeper at the World Cup.
She was joined by friends, family and members of Larne Ladies Hockey Club at a reception in her home town.
Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Lindsay Millar, said: “The Ireland team were phenomenal at the World Cup and captivated the imagination of everybody watching them back home.
“They have cemented their place in history, raising the profile of the sport and demonstrating what can be achieved through hard work, commitment and teamwork.
“We are so proud of Ayeisha, who was nothing short of superb in goals throughout the tournament.
“It was a huge pleasure to personally congratulate her and the entire team for their inspirational achievements. They are excellent role models for women in sport and I wish them every success in the future.”
