A Dunloy man described as being a “Jekyll and Hyde” was disorderly at McDonald’s restaurant in Ballymena and when he spat in a police vehicle it had to be taken off the road to be cleaned, Ballymena Magistrates Court heard on Thursday.

Martin Ryan Brogan (36), of Glenbuck Road, previously pleaded guilty to charges of being disorderly and causing criminal damage.

A prosecutor said during an incident in May the defendant was being “aggressive” and he was then verbally abusive to police whom he told to “f-ck off”.

District Judge Nigel Broderick said the defendant seemed to have “anger management problems” but defence barrister Michael Smyth said it was more to do with “alcohol management”.

The lawyer said there was a “Jekyll and Hyde” situation when Brogan drank too much.

Imposing a two months jail term, suspended for two years, Judge Broderick told the defendant: “Behave like this again in the next two years and you will go to prison. The next time you take a drink temper your behaviour”.
