LOVE is in the air this Valentine’s Day as plans are afoot to allow wedding ceremonies to be held on a lofty viewing platform jutting out from a 200ft high cliff top at The Gobbins on Ialandmagee.
It really will be the height of romance for loved up couples who will be able to say ‘I do’ with the stunning backdrop of the world famous sea cliff walks.
Mid & East Antrim Borough Council has applied for a licence to allow couples to be on cloud nine as their match is made in heaven high above the North Channel.
The lofty venue really will take your loved one’s breath away and the idea to allow weddings to take place there came after a couple applied to tie the knot there.
The Council expects the unique wedding venue to be licensed for civil marriages and partnerships in the coming months.
Registrar Jackie Tennant said: “The idea came from a request for a ceremony to be held on the viewing platform at The Gobbins. It makes use a stunning venue and offers people a chance to explore the area.
“We’re also hoping that nearby local businesses will benefit as a result. It will certainly help put Mid and East Antrim on the map and offer a very individual experience to lucky newlyweds who want to stand out from the crowd on their special day.”
Alister Bell, manager at The Gobbins, said: “We are really looking forward to being able to carry out weddings here. With such amazing views as far as Scotland and all along the Causeway Coastal Route, we can offer a truly unique experience unlike any other in the whole of Northern Ireland.
“The backdrop will also provide stunning settings for world class wedding photographs,” but Alister added: “I probably wouldn’t recommend large hats for the ceremonies here.”
