Man charged in relation to discovery of cannabis worth £18,000

A 51-year-old man appeared in court on Monday accused of cultivating cannabis and having herbal cannabis with an estimated street value of £18,000.

Graham John McCauley, of Moyarget Road, Ballycastle, is alleged to have cultivated cannabis at his address in September, 2016.

At Coleraine Magistrates Court he was also charged with possessing herbal cannabis and possessing a .38 calibre revolver without holding a firearm certificate.

He is further accused of having a .177 calibre air pistol and .22 calibre pneumatic air rifle without holding a firearm certificate.

The defendant is also charged with having a ‘Street Wise’ stun gun.

During a Preliminary Enquiry at court a prosecutor submitted that on the basis of the papers before the court there was a case to answer.

A defence solicitor said it was accepted there was a case to answer.

District Judge Liam McNally sent the case to Antrim Crown Court for arraignment on February 26 and defendant was released on his own bail of £750.

In 2016, police said drugs seized at Moyarget Road in Ballycastle had an estimated street value of £18,000.
