Man charged with stealing almost £500 worth of heating oil from a children’s day care nursery in Ballymena

A man charged with stealing almost £500 worth of heating oil from a children’s day care nursery in Ballymena has has had his case sent to Antrim Crown Court.

John Mongan (29), whose address was given as c/o Maghaberry Prison, is accused of committing theft at Norwood Day Care on the Cushendall Road in Ballymena on July 27, 2017.

Relating to the same date he is also accused of burglary of Norwood and stealing a TV and Freeview box.

He was in handcuffs in the dock at Ballymena Magistrates Court on Thursday for a Preliminary Enquiry – the legal step to send the case to the Crown Court.

A prosecutor submitted there was a case to answer and defence barrister Francis Rafferty said that was conceded.

District Judge Peter King sent the case to Antrim Crown Court and the defendant was remanded in continuing custody ahead of his next appearance which is scheduled for late September.
