A defence solicitor said his client got drugs from a friend “to help him sleep”.
Lawyer Nigel McIlrath was speaking at Ballymena Magistrates Court on Thursday regarding Christopher James Dixon (29), of Lettercreeve, Ballymena.
The defendant was in court for sentencing on charges of possessing cannabis, Diazepam and Temazepam on March 5 this year.
Mr McIlrath said the defendant was due to start a new job and “things are looking positive for him”.
District Judge Nigel Broderick said: “I’m going to put this down to a one-off relapse”.
He said there had been a nine year gap in offending.
The defendant was fined £275.
