A Coleraine man who failed to complete Community Service after being convicted of wasting police time has had the Order revoked and replaced with a two months jail term, suspended for a year.

Jason Kane (28), of Oakvale Park, appeared at Coleraine Magistrates Court.

A defence solicitor said the defendant had been off on long term sick leave due to anxiety and depression and was unable to complete the 200 hours of unpaid work he had been ordered to do.

The lawyer said the defendant had done 71 hours.

Deputy District Judge Brian Archer told Kane: “This is a serious offence. You wasted police resources. For whatever reason you reported to police that you were the victim of an assault”.
