A MAN has been charged with possessing a hatchet, hammer and wooden baton as offensive weapons in a public place – the Riverside Retail Park in Coleraine.

Mark Laurence Woods (44), of Parklea in Portstewart, is alleged to have committed the offences on September 24 this year.

On the same date he is charged with three counts of possessing articles with blades in a public place – Riverside Retail Park – a machete-type knife; a knife and three ‘Stanley-type blades’.

Another charge sheet, which listed his address as Silverthorn Avenue in Coleraine, accuses him of possessing an article in a public place – a lock knife – at The Diamond in Portstewart on April 11 this year.

He is also accused of using a car without insurance at Frosses Road, Cloughmills, on March 10 this year.

The defendant was in the dock at Coleraine Magistrates Court on November 5 where his defence solicitor Garrett Greene said all the matters will be contested in December.
