A man who forced entry into his ex-partner’s home before running up and checking a bedroom whilst alleging: “You are hiding somebody in here” has been put on Probation for 18 months.
Gerard Peter Reid (28), of Cypress Park in Cloughmills, put his partner in fear of assault during the incident on September 13 this year, Coleraine Magistrates Court heard on Monday.
The defendant admitted charges of assault and causing criminal damage to a door which cost £150 to fix.
A prosecutor said the frightened woman rang police on the 999 number to say her ex-partner was banging at her door.
It was alleged Reid said: “You better open the f*cking door, you are hiding people in that house”.
The defendant then forced entry and told his ex-partner: “You are hiding somebody in here” before running up and checking a bedroom.
Defence barrister Nicola Rountree said there was no doubt it was a “very frightening” incident.
She said the relationship broke down in August this year.
Putting Reid on Probation for 18 months and ordering him to engage in addiction counselling if requested, District Judge Liam McNally said the woman must have been in fear whenever the defendant was “doing your best to knock the door down”.
