An Ahoghill man who has been detected driving three times without insurance has been given eight penalty points and a £400 fine for the latest offence.
Glenn Mairs (35), of Brookfield Gardens, came to police attention at Waveney Road in Ballymena in September last year.
Defence solicitor Stewart Ballentine said the defendant believed he was insured.
The lawyer told Ballymena Magistrates Court the defendant had been “let down” by another person to whom money had been given in connection with getting insurance cover.
District Judge Nigel Broderick said that “not without some hesitation” he would not disqualify the defendant but warned that if he is caught again without insurance he ran the risk of a custody-related sentence.
