A prisoner on weekend leave accused of grabbing a hatchet after allegedly punching a man and woman at a “family get-together” has been released on bail to an address in Clough.
Christopher Aitcheson (35), whose address was originally given as Killagan Road near Cloughmills, appeared at Coleraine Magistrates Court via video link from Magilligan Prison on Monday June 25.
He is charged with assaulting a man occasioning him actual bodily harm and assaulting the man’s wife on April 15 this year.
In relation to the April 15 charges, the defendant had first appeared at the June 18, 2018, sitting of Coleraine Magistrates Court which had heard Aitcheson described as “a man possessed and dangerous” during the alleged incident.
At that court, District Judge Nigel Broderick said Aitcheson could be released on bail subject to a suitable address being agreed and the defendant was banned from having any contact with the injured parties.
He was not to enter the town where they live and he was not to consume alcohol or be on licensed premises.
Aitcheson also had an 11pm-7am curfew.
The case had been adjourned to June 25.
He appeared at court via video link from prison, on June 25, and it was heard a suitable address had not been found until then and that it was Coronation Park.
A prosecutor said the full file in the case has been delayed as there were “some counter-allegations made post-interview”.
The case was adjourned to July 23.
