A man who was being questioned about the murder of German backpacker Inga Maria Hauser has been released pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service, police said on Wednesday.
On Tuesday detectives from the PSNI’s Major Investigation Team had been granted an additional 14 hours to question a 59-year-old suspect.
He had been arrested last May by detectives investigating the murder of Inga Maria and he had been released on bail pending further enquiries until Tuesday.
Three decades ago Inga Maria’s body was found at Ballypatrick Forest near Ballycastle.
A 62-year-old man who was also arrested on May 21 2018 on suspicion of murder and released on police bail on May 22 2018 was released unconditionally in December 2018.
The two men had been arrested in the Loughgiel area last May.
