A man who attempted to punch a staff member at the O2 store in Coleraine a few days after Christmas has been given a six months jail term, suspended for a year.

David Hall (33), of Kingsbury Gardens, Coleraine, was charged with common assault following an incident on December 29 last year.

Defence barrister Michael Smyth said the punch didn’t connect and the staff member was uninjured.

The lawyer said the defendant had “taken offence” at something that had been said earlier and Hall, who had a previous record, accepted he “lost his temper”.

Mr Smyth told Coleraine Magistrates Court on August 13: “It was all over in a matter of seconds and he left the premises in his wheelchair”.
