Man told police he ‘smoked a joint’

POLICE leaving a property in the Waveney Road area of Ballymena in relation to an unrelated call detected a strong smell of cannabis and then found a man was in possession of a small amount of the drug.

Gary Greene (23), of Lettercreeve in the town, had his case dealt with at Ballymena Magistrates Court on Thursday.

It was heard the defendant told police he had “smoked a joint”.

Defence solicitor John McAtamney said the drugs were for the defendant’s personal use and that they had a street value of around £5.

The defendant was fined £100.
