A Ballymena man who crashed at the town’s Larne Road Link after being out with friends to celebrate an engagement has admitted driving with excess alcohol in his breath.

Lee Galbraith (30), of Shetland Gardens, was detected on December 1 last year when he had an alcohol/breath reading of 47 with the legal limit being 35.

A prosecutor said that at around 11.30pm a taxi driver flagged down a police patrol to say a driver had crashed and officers then found a Ford Focus on a grass verge.

Defence solicitor Stewart Ballentine said the defendant had been out with friends and had parked his car up and had one drink.

He then went back to the car and on his way to a cash machine a “tyre blew out”.

The defendant was banned from driving for a year and fined £250.
