A man who pleaded guilty to being disorderly at McDonald’s restaurant in Ballymena asked a judge why he could not be sentenced straight away and District Judge Nigel Broderick told him it was because the likelihood was he would be jailed without a report being prepared.

David Surgenor (24), of Old Cullybackey Road, Cullybackey, committed the offence on July 19 this year.

The defendant, who has a criminal record and had been released from prison a number of weeks previously, was at Ballymena Magistrates Court on October 18 and the case was adjourned to November 1.
