A man who has been banned from driving for three months and fined £300 for permitting no insurance claimed he had sold a Hyundai car to his cousin but had not handed over the registration documents.

Robert Cordovan (21), a factory worker, originally from Romania, of Galgorm Road, Ballymena, had the offence detected at Dunclug Gardens in the town on November 10 last year.

A prosecutor told Ballymena Magistrates Court on Thursday May 31 that a police patrol detected a vehicle was uninsured and the defendant, the registered keeper, was a passenger.

Defence solicitor Emma McCann said Cordovan had sold the car to his cousin a couple of days before in a cash sale and had not got round to handing over the paper work.

His cousin is no longer in Northern Ireland, she said.

The court heard the defendant had two relevant previous convictions.
