A man with 53 previous convictions who stole vodka and Irish Cream from M&S in Ballymena’s Fairhill Centre has been given a four months jail term but was released on £500 bail pending appeal.

District Judge Nigel Broderick, speaking at Ballymena Magistrates Court on December 20, said the court had “lost patience” with Anthony John Ramsey (30), of Slemish View in the Ballymena area.

The defendant pleaded guilty to a theft charge after initially telling police he “hadn’t a clue where he was” on the day in question – October 14 in 2017.

A defence solicitor said the defendant was alcohol dependent and had stolen “out of desperation”.
