A MAN who was disorderly at the Causeway Hospital in Coleraine on October 29 this year has been told he was lucky to get bail.

Darren Samuel Thomas White (33), of Moyarget Road near Ballycastle, is due to be sentenced at Limavady Magistrates Court on November 28.

At Coleraine Magistrates Court on November 5 a prosecutor said a bail address had been agreed at Greymount Park in the Finvoy area near Ballymoney.

District Judge Liam McNally said the defendant had caused trouble at the Causeway Hospital and within a week of getting a suspended sentence was back at the hospital committing the offence before the court – disorderly behaviour.

The judge initially said he didn’t think White should get bail.

A defence lawyer said his client had alcohol issues and if bailed intended to go to his GP and then go to a rehab facility.

Judge McNally then said he would grant the defendant bail but that White was “very fortunate”.

White was released on his own bail of £500 with a surety of £500.

The judge said he would not impose any condition regarding alcohol as the defendant was an alcoholic and therefore that would be a “waste of time”.
