Over 1,700 people visited a Jobs Fair at the Valley Leisure and took the first step of improving their skills to secure a new job.

The prospective job seekers had the opportunity to speak to 64 local employers who were promoting over 1000 job vacancies. They were also able to sample first hand some of the job roles available, to decide if the career was right for them.

At the jobs fair the Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Paul Michael, said: “It was fantastic to work in partnership with the Department for Communities (DfC) on the first Antrim and Newtownabbey Jobs Fair. The event was a great success and it was brilliant to see so many people attending the fair and applying for new jobs.”

Stephen McGlew, Head of Employer Services from the Department for Communities, said: “We were delighted with the numbers that attended the jobs fair and we hope everyone who visited the event now has the confidence to apply for one of the many jobs on offer.”

If you were unable to attend the Jobs Fair, the Council, in partnership with other agencies has recently launched a Facebook page detailing available jobs in the Borough.

To view the jobs visit www.facebook.com/ANBoroughJobs and if you are a local employer with vacancies you can email business@antrimandnewtownabbey.gov.uk to have these positions listed on the Facebook page.
