A driver who crashed on his way to a funeral was later discovered to be over the drink drive limit.
Witnesses heard “loud screeching” of an engine before a vehicle crashed at Terrace Row in Coleraine on January 13, 2018.
Calvin McLaughlin (22), of Garron Park in Portrush, was later identified as the driver and he was narrowly over the drink drive limit.
He also had cocaine in his possession.
The defendant told police he had been drinking several hours before and said he had lost control whilst at the wheel.
Defence barrister Stephen Law told Coleraine Magistrates Court on February 4 the defendant and others had been drinking earlier as they were going to the funeral of a friend.
At the time, the lawyer said, McLaughlin had been “experimenting” with cocaine.
The defendant admitted charges of driving with excess alcohol in blood and possession of cocaine and was given a three months jail term, suspended for two years; banned from driving for a year and fined £200.
