An Articlave man caught drink driving at Tunnel Brae at Castlerock on December 15 last year has been banned from the road for 18 months and fined £500.
Ian Thomas Turner (29), of Dunboe Gardens, appeared at Coleraine Magistrates Court on January 7 and admitted charges of driving with excess alcohol in his breath; and not having insurance, a licence nor MOT.
He had a reading of 79 with the legal alcohol in breath limit being 35.
A prosecutor said police on mobile patrol saw a vehicle parked at a picnic area at 1.40am and the defendant then attempted to drive past the PSNI.
The defendant told the court: “I’m sorry, I know I was in the wrong.”
Deputy District Judge Peter Magill said Turner had 27 previous convictions and it was “by the Grace of God” there had been no accident on December 15.
