POLICE were told about a suspected drink driver and after going to his address they observed him pull into the driveway and stumble out of a vehicle.

James Elder (32), of Ashlea Drive in Ballymoney, had been out on Sunday January 13 for a meal to celebrate his birthday which was the next day and had a “few glasses” of alcohol.

A member of the public had earlier spotted the defendant stumbling before getting into a vehicle and had informed the PSNI.

Elder had an alcohol in breath reading of 56 with the legal limit being 35.

Defence solicitor Sam Barr said the defendant, who is due to get married soon, had a completely clear record and “deeply regrets” drink driving.

At Coleraine Magistrates Court on January 28 Elder was banned from the road for a year and fined £200.
