River side walkway extension approved in Antrim

The Planning Committee of Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council has granted permission for an extension to the existing Boardwalk along the Six Mile Water in Antrim town centre.

The scheme is one of a number of proposals being promoted by the Antrim Town Development Company which aim of significantly improve the built environment of the town.

Following the decision, Committee Chairman, Councillor Henry Cushinan, said: “Implementation of this scheme will provide better connections for visitors and residents alike facilitating improved access from the Antrim Castle Gardens to the town centre and onwards to the Mill Race.

“It should also open up opportunities for the enhancement of properties on the river and help promote much needed regeneration.”

He added: “The Council welcomes the Development Company’s commitment to continue working with local residents on this scheme and other innovative proposals for Antrim”.
