A self-employed welder claimed people had not paid outstanding debts and he couldn’t afford car insurance.
Sebastian Sczcepaniec (40), of Station Road in Randalstown, was detected driving a Volkswagen Passat at Queen Street in Ballymena on August 19 this year,
On Thursday, Ballymena Magistrates Court heard that when stopped by police the defendant – who is originally from Poland – said he was uninsured because he had “financial problems”.
He was represented by solicitor Stewart Ballentine (James Ballentine & Son).
District Judge Nigel Broderick gave the defendant six penalty points and fined him £300 but warned if he is caught again on the road whilst uninsured he will be banned.
