Ballymena is reeling after the loss of a well-known town centre business.
Montgomery’s Restaurant and Coffee Shop, for long a prominent feature in Ballymoney Street on a prime site between the town’s two shopping centres, has closed.
In a statement, Richard Montgomery said: “It is with regret I have to announce that Montgomery’s Restaurant and Coffeeshop has closed.
“Loss of tenants on our ground and middle floor have made it unsustainable for us to trade.
“I would like to thank all our staff who have been wonderful to work with over the years.
“I would also like to thank our customers for their years of unwavering loyalty and support.
“Montgomerys Outside Catering will continue to trade.”
Customers expressed sadness.
On Facebook, one person said: “Very sad, it’s been a Ballymena institution for so long. Great food and excellent service. Wishing you and the family all the very best for the future.”
Another said: “Sorry to hear this, great place for coffee and food, will be missed! Wishing the Montgomery Family and Staff all the best for the future.”
