NORTH Antrim DUP MLA and Member of the Policing Board Mervyn Storey has congratulated the work of the RUC George Cross Foundation Bursary Scheme.

His comments follow his attendance at the award ceremony for those who were the recipients of the Bursary.

Mr Storey said: “I was pleased to attend today the award ceremony for those who were the recipients of the RUC George Cross Foundation Bursary Scheme.

“The scheme is designed to contribute to the further development of policing in Northern Ireland by sponsoring research studies.

“An award of a bursary enables recipients to develop their personal experience and competence but also, through their research, contribute to improvements in the police service as a whole.

“The aim of the Bursary is ‘to build on the past and invest in the future’ by facilitating police officers and staff to research a subject and make recommendations which are relevant to today’s policing problems.

“I have no doubt that the extensive research papers that have been produced will be of help to the PSNI and the Policing Board as they develop policies and new ways of dealing with the many and varied challenges facing police officers, their families and in how they serve the public as police officers.

“To those who received their awards today I say well done and well deserved.”
