FIRST there was the mystery of the moving flower planters and now signage is disappearing in Ballymena town centre.
Residents recently noticed something odd about new signage in the Broadway area.
New direction signs had gone up giving estimated walking times to a number of areas of the town.
But some of the directional plates at Broadway had caught the attention of the public for the wrong reasons.
That’s because one sign said Broadway is ‘four minutes’ away when the sign is actually positioned in Broadway.
Another sign at Broadway says it is only a five minute walk to Ballymena bus and train station.
The signs led to criticism on social media with one man saying not even the late Sir Roger Bannister – the first man to run a mile in less than four minutes – could have made the journey in that time.
A Mid & East Antrim Borough Council spokesman told ‘Ballymena Daily’ at the time: “Ballymena’s Public Realm Scheme works are currently being finalised as part of the £4million investment in the town centre.
“Interchangeable plates were temporarily placed on new signposts and are currently being positioned in their final places to direct visitors to some of our more popular locations.”
And now the signs have gone as our before and after pictures above show.
It is believed the signs are being replaced by the Council.
When they go up again they will be under intense scrutiny.
