Woman fined £3,000 after being convicted of ill-treating care home residents

A 29 year old woman was today given 100 hours community service, three years’ probation and a £3,000 fine following her conviction for ill treatment at a County Antrim care home.

Tracey Ballantine was found guilty of seven counts of wilful neglect and one of common assault in connection with the treatment of residents at Broadacres in Templepatrick.

Ballantine had been entrusted with the care of vulnerable people and these offences, which were reported to police last year, constituted a breach of the trust of the residents and their families.

Detectives from PSNI Public Protection Branch who investigated this case would encourage anyone who has experienced a similar crime to contact police.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Complaints of this nature are treated with the utmost seriousness, and cases will be robustly investigated and offenders placed before the courts.”
