A woman who shouted “offensive terms” towards police at Coleraine’s Causeway Hospital has been ordered to do 60 hours of unpaid work.

Sarah Elizabeth McKinney (29), of Hawthorn Terrace in Coleraine, was in the town’s Magistrates Court on February 4 for sentencing on charges of assaulting police and being disorderly last November.

At one stage in a police vehicle she had used handcuffs to strike an officer who she also tried to bite.

Deputy District Judge Peter Magill noted that when the defendant sobered up she was extremely remorseful and had apologised to police.
