Woman struggles with would-be handbag snatcher after brazen theft attempt on one of Ballymena’s busiest streets


Police in Ballymena investigating the report of an attempted handbag snatch in the town yesterday (Thursday, 25 October) are appealing for information and witnesses.

Constable Chris Glasgow said: “We received a report shortly before 3:15pm yesterday that as a woman was walking along Church Street at around 2pm she was approached by a male who tried to snatch her handbag.

“A struggled ensued and the suspect ran off empty-handed.

“The suspect is described as being 5’9’’ tall, of slim build and was reported to have been wearing a grey-coloured tracksuit with the hood pulled up.

“I want to appeal to anyone who was on Church Street around this time yesterday and saw what happened, or anyone who has information they believe may assist our investigation to get in touch on the non emergency number 101, quoting reference number 732 of 25/10/18.”

Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.
