A Ballymena man described by his defence solicitor as a “young man who has lost his way” has been jailed for two months.
Adam Wilson (21), of Rathmore Heights, was disorderly at Dunvale in the town in the early hours of October 5 this year.
Police responded to a report of a disturbance and Wilson was being restrained.
He then attempted to run off but fell due to his intoxicated state and was swearing and shouting at police.
On October 21 this year Wilson asked for cigarettes at the Spar shop at Dunvale and when a staff member set them down he walked away without offering payment.
He admitted theft.
Defence solicitor Connel Trainor said substance abuse was the background to the offending and that his client was a “young man who has lost his way”.
