A judge ordered an 18-year-old to be taken to the cells at Coleraine Courthouse and told him: “Think about your future”.
Deputy District Judge Brian Archer placed Dale Campbell, of Church Street, Portstewart, into custody during the August 20 Magistrates Court.
The judge made the move after being informed the defendant did not consent to being put on Probation or doing Community Service after pleading guilty to being disorderly at Castlerock Road in Coleraine and causing criminal damage to a police cell on June 30 this year.
The judge said it was the court and not Campbell which would decide what his sentence would be.
Judge Archer told the court: “I wonder what he thinks of the YOC?”
Later in the court the defendant was given a two months custodial term, suspended for 18 months.
