IS that the sound of sleigh bells?…Ballymena’s festive lights have been laid out on streets in the town centre tonight (Thursday October 18) ready to be put up.
It is 68 days to December 25 or nine and a half weeks.
It is expected the lights will now be put up over the next few weeks.
‘Ballymena Daily’ spotted some lights at the side of Broughshane Street tonight which are ready to go up.
A spokeswoman for Mid & East Antrim Borough Council confirmed the switch-on is Thursday November 15 with events on from 4pm-7pm.
In the past there has been controversy about the date of the lights switch-on in Ballymena.
The smell of Halloween fireworks was still in the air one year when the lights went live on November 1.
The November 1 date was believed to have been the earliest, or one of the earliest in the UK, up there with the famous shopping destination of Oxford Street in London.
Oxford Street lights up on November 6 this year.
In the days when the Ballymena lights were switched on early they were always turned off on Remembrance Sunday as a mark of respect.
However, eventually the council axed the early switch-ons and they are now usually after Armistice Day which is particularly significant this year, being the 100th anniversary of the end of World War One.
